Time To Deal Pujols?
I have been having this internal debate for a few years now about Albert Pujols. I have owned him in our keeper league for about five years. In that time I have won one championship but contended every year. This year is no different. I am at the top of my division and the second best overall record. He is not the only reason but the best player in baseball can only help, right?
The key to a keeper situation is to try to capitalize on the value of the player. When Pujols was hurt two years ago I thought I had missed my window and his value would plummet. Unbelievably, he started playing better than ever. Even this year, with a slower than usual start I thought it might be a downturn year. Now he is killing the ball and is the most consistent contributor in baseball.
Even so I am starting to wonder once again whether it is time to trade in the reliable and amazing player for several younger players of key value. I hate to even think about it, but you just can’t be emotional about something like this. If it will help the team long term, you have to consider it. It may not happen, as all the offers I have seen so far are garbage or not worthy of the legend. Stay tuned to see if Mr. Pujols stays the Chicago American Giants anchor another season.
